RACE DETAILS

Your Team

Your team of three should be co-ed in order to be eligible for trophies, however all male or all female teams are allowed to participate. Teams may have multiple support people, but one must be a designated support member who receives all benefits of competing members. All team members must complete each required discipline together as a team. Race management will provide any necessary equipment for any mystery challenges. The team provides everything else. Please see detailed equipment list under Rules.

The Course

The course of the Blue Ridge Mountain Adventure Race changes from year to year. Disciplines used in the past are mountain biking, running/trekking, kayaking, canoeing, rappelling, orienteering, wet river crossings and climbing, as well as numerous "mystery challenges. " The course is approximately 35 miles, designed for a finish time between six and nine hours. The course utilizes the trail system of the Chattahoochee National Forest. Portions of the Benton MacKaye Trail, the Rich Mountain Wildlife Management Area and Aska Adventure Area have been used in the past. For water events, courses have included portions the Toccoa River and Lake Blue Ridge.

The Schedule

Events begin on Friday night with a Pre-race Dinner, registration and packet pick-up at Fannin County High School, in Blue Ridge. Dinner and registration begin at 5 p.m. A mandatory pre-race briefing takes place at 7 p.m. Four team members eat free (extra tickets can be purchased at the door). The race start time will be between 7 and 8 o'clock on Saturday morning. Start location changes from year to year. The start time and location will be announced on Friday night at the pre-race briefing. The race finish line is in the downtown Blue Ridge City Park.

Scoring

The winner will be the fastest team after penalties for missing checkpoints. There will be no time added for mystery event violations.

Trophies

Trophies will be presented to all team members and support for first, second and third place teams overall in the Open Division, and for first and second place Masters teams (all three members 40+). Youth Division first place will receive one trophy per team and certificates to all members. Blue Ridge Mountain Adventure Race trophies are commissioned from local artists and are one-of-a-kind pieces of art. Other award categories may be added and announced later. Teams must choose a division no later than Friday night at team registration, i.e. Masters teams will not qualify for Open Division trophies unless they register as Open Division teams. No duplication of awards.

Cost

$285 per team includes the pre-race dinner for three racers and one support person and a deluxe racer incentive package for each team member. To register, simply download the application and send it with your check to the address included on the form. Cancellation policy: no refund after April 1. Prior to April 1, $85 processing fee will be held and $200 returned.

USARA Membership

All participants must be members of the USARA and provide their USARA card. Participants can sign up for a one-time or yearly USARA membership at the pre-race dinner at an additional charge.
